1 Oct - Games, Relay Races, Team Work and Canoeing in the Pond
- Come and meet the Wildkids! Some have participated in many sessions and some will be new! We will get to know each other by playing games and challenging ourselves in relay races. We will also hopefully take advantage of the pleasant weather of this early Fall to canoe in the pond.
8 Oct - Stat Holiday No Wildkids
15 Oct - Climbing Things
- Reversible feet, suction cups, long arms... are all adaptations of animals that climb! Come practice your climbing skills, encourage each other in finding clues that relate to several “climbing things” and connect them to the right animal in our famous game show! Climbing the tower with a twist on learning and working as a team!
22 Oct - Life in a Pond
- What is a pond? What are its roles? What lives in and around it? With games, discussions and observations, you will learn about some of the ponds secrets and get a hands-on experience “pond dipping” to be able to observe its multitude of creatures up close. Larvae, insects, algae, snails, turtles, worms and tadpoles are just a few of the inhabitants of this amazingly rich ecosystem.
29 Oct - Halloween Fun
- Decoration and mask making will be the highlights of this Spooky and Fun program. The group will also make a special treat to be shared around a campfire while telling and listening to Halloween stories.
5 Nov - Food Webs and the New Animal Game
- Ecosystems, habitats and food webs are the focus of this fun, interactive and creative program. A wide survival game, group discussions and a food web art creation are only a few of the activities that will make our learning experience memorable. We will talk producers, consumers and decomposers and their habitat as well as establish relations within the food webs.
12 Nov - The Five Senses of Nature
- Experience nature! Touch its textures, smell its odours, notice its differences and subtleties, hear its sounds, and even taste some of its goodness. Following “Nature Spirit” use your five senses to learn about your surroundings. We will walk, create, play and learn in this fun and interactive program about the natural elements surrounding us.
19 Nov - Grand Finale
- The grand finale for this Wildkids Fall Session will be filled with fun, laughter and action! Treasure hunt and games are only a few of the elements of this memorable end of the season... Until next time Wildkids!!

WildKids Summer Session Info
WILDKIDS SUMMER SESSION
2 May – 27 June 2011
(Every Monday, from 1-4pm)
Dear Parents and WildKids,
Thank you so much for continuing to make this program such a blast! We are coming up to our summer session of Wildkids, running from May 2 – June 27, 2011.
This session, we will have the emphasis on canoeing, with the goal of obtaining a Basic Lakewater Tandem(1) certification with the RCABC (Recreational Canoeing Association of British Columbia) for those who are interested.
The Basic Lakewater Tandem course consists of some theory, strokes, skills and a rescue component. This course is appropriate for those who have the desire to improve their canoeing and are willing to dedicate the time and effort to it. If you can paddle around to look for frogs and turtles, then you are able to do this course!
The offset days we are scheduled to be in the garden, in the back woods for “plant technology”, and practicing your developing camp skills.
For the program end celebration, we are planning another overnight camp out here at the Metchosin Camp. Parents are encouraged to come and spend the evening out at camp with us! Dinner will be potluck style, and pancakes will be served for breakfast.
Come prepared for changing weather with appropriate clothing and snacks. With a water based activity, having a full change of clothes could be a good idea for those “just in case” scenarios.
Looking forward to yet another great WildKids session filled with learning, exploration and of course FUN!!
Sincerely,
Emily, Josh & Jay

Wildkids Winter/Spring Session
February 21, 2011 – April 11, 2011 (Every Monday, from 1-4pm)
Dear Parents and Wildkids,
As we enter into the new year, and a new session of Wildkids, we are very excited that this program is still running strong! And with the new session, Josh and I have had some new ideas and we will be running the winter/spring session of Wildkids a little differently than it was seen in the fall.
This session, we will have 2 “courses” running – Canoeing Level 1 certification with the RCABC (Recreational Canoeing Association of British Columbia); and an Environmental Exploration course.
The Canoe Level 1 course consists of some theory, strokes, skills and a rescue component. This course is appropriate for those who have the desire to improve their canoeing and are willing to dedicate the time and effort to it. If you can paddle around to look for frogs and turtles, then you are able to do this course!
The Environmental Exploration course will be all about discovering what is in our backyard. During the 4 weeks there will be a small continuous garden project, nature hikes, outdoor skills, natural arts and crafts, and many more activities to discover the wonders of the natural world.
The remaining four weeks of the program will be filled with much loved activities such as the climbing wall, challenge course and forest games.
For the program end celebration, we are planning an overnight camp out here at the Metchosin Wilderness Camp. During the length of the program we will be working on gaining the skills and knowledge to be prepared for a night out in the back forest. Parents are encouraged to come and spend the evening out at camp with us! Dinner will be potluck style, and pancakes will be served for breakfast.
Come prepared for changing weather with appropriate clothing and snacks. We have only had to cancel one day of programming due to weather in 3 full sessions.
Looking forward to yet another great Wildkids session filled with learning, exploration and of course FUN!!
Sincerely,
Emily & Josh
PS. PLEASE NOTE THE TIME CHANGE. DUE TO MANY REQUESTS WE WILL BE RUNNING THE PROGRAM FROM 1-4PM AS OPPOSED TO 12-3PM.
